Illustrious Sir Lee M. Webb
Potentate - 1952
Officially opening the new $1,200,000 Arabia Temple Crippled Children’s Clinic on February 16, 1952 was the “the brightest spot of the year” for Illustrious Potentate Lee M. Webb, the first and only (except for two years) editor of the Temple magazine, The Arabian, for the previous 25 years.
There were, however, other significant and outstanding events. Probably more official visits to the out-of-town Shrine Clubs were made this year than ever before. The Uniformed Units, Nobles and ladies enjoyed train trips to the All-State meetings in May at Austin, Texas, and then to the Imperial sessions at Miami, Florida, in June. Governor Allan Shivers was initiated at the Austin All-State and Arabia Temple Patrol brought home the first place trophy. At Miami, the well known and very popular Harvey A. Beffa of Moolah Temple in St. Louis and a polio victim was elected as Imperial Potentate.
As 1952 drew to a close, the Temple was shocked to learn of the passing of one of its most illustrious and dedicated members, Illustrious Past Potentate Frank Cameron Jones, a Past Potentate of El Mina Temple in Galveston, the second Potentate of Arabia Temple, and a Past Imperial Potentate of the Imperial Council A.A.O.N.M.S. The Past Imperial Sir who served as Imperial Potentate from May 3, 1928 to June 6, 1929, passed away in Houston on November 15, 1952.
