Illustrious Sir Dr S.M. Lister

Potentate - 1921

The $30,000 remodeling of the First Baptist Church property was completed in 1921. Formal dedication ceremonies were held on July 14 at a reception and ball in the newly-acquired Temple. Music was furnished by Arabia Temple’s own orchestra and refreshments were served “to the hundreds that crowded the building to its utmost capacity.”

All of the units were unusually active. A baseball team was organized that helped put Arabia Temple on the map. The crippled children’s work was carried on with unabated vigor. The annual ball, the orphan’s picnic, and many social functions added to the interest of the Temple. Pilgrimages were made to Alvin, Galveston, Navasota, and Palestine. The Widows’ Fund had an increase of 634 members, a record in this branch of the Temple. Four ceremonials brought membership to 2,745 at year end.

Illustrious Potentate Dr. S. M. Lister remarked in his annual report, “I am delighted to announce the most prosperous year in the history of Arabia Temple.”
