Celebrating Leadership: Highlights from the Arabia Alchemists Weekend

What a weekend it was for the Arabia Alchemists! On March 27 and 28, our unit made waves on two exciting fronts, showcasing leadership, teamwork, and community spirit. Whether it was in Fredericksburg, Texas, or right here in Houston, the Alchemists proved once again why we’re proud to be part of this incredible group. Let’s dive into the highlights and celebrate the achievements and moments that made this weekend unforgettable.

Leadership Shines at the Texas Shrine Home Brewers Association Meeting

The weekend kicked off with a strong showing at the Texas Shrine Home Brewers Association (TSHBA) Midwinter Meeting in Fredericksburg. Our very own Treasurer Ian Goodwin and Secretary Cary Williams joined Past President Kevin Clingan to represent the Arabia Alchemists. This gathering is a big deal for anyone passionate about brewing and leadership within the Shrine community, and our team did not disappoint.

Here are the standout moments from the meeting:

  • Kevin Clingan was re-elected as TSHBA Secretary. This is a testament to Kevin’s dedication and the respect he commands among his peers.

  • Ian Goodwin was elected Brewmaster for 2026–2027. This role is essentially the president of the association, a huge honor that speaks volumes about Ian’s leadership skills and commitment.

  • Cary Williams represented Khiva Shrine of Amarillo with pride. His presence helped strengthen connections across the state.

These achievements highlight the Arabia Alchemists’ influence beyond our local unit. It’s not just about brewing great beer; it’s about building strong leaders who inspire others. Ian and Kevin’s recognition on the state level shows that our unit’s leadership is making a real impact.

Feeding the Brotherhood at the Grand Master’s Conference

While the Fredericksburg team was busy with leadership duties, back home in Houston, the Alchemists were cooking up something special. Unit President Bobby Herren led the charge as the team served chopped beef brisket sandwiches with all the fixings at the Grand Master’s Conference held at Arabia Shrine on Saturday, March 28th.

Feeding between 25 and 30 Brothers, the Alchemists turned this event into a warm gathering filled with good food and great company. Here’s why this moment stood out:

  • Delicious food brought everyone together. Nothing builds camaraderie like a hearty meal, and brisket sandwiches are a crowd favorite.

  • Teamwork made the event smooth and enjoyable. From prep to serving, every Brother pitched in.

  • Supporting the kids remains our core mission. Every sandwich served was a reminder of why we do what we do.

The Grand Master’s Conference was more than just a meal service; it was a chance to connect, share stories, and strengthen the bonds that make the Arabia Alchemists a family.

What This Weekend Means for the Arabia Alchemists

This weekend was a clear example of how leadership and community go hand in hand. On one side, we had members stepping up to lead and represent at the state level. On the other, we had the unit coming together to serve and support each other locally.

Here are some takeaways from the weekend:

  • Leadership grows through service. Ian and Kevin’s roles show that leading others starts with dedication and involvement.

  • Community events build stronger units. Serving food at the conference wasn’t just about feeding people; it was about creating memories and connections.

  • Every Brother’s contribution counts. Whether attending a meeting or serving sandwiches, each role is vital.

The Arabia Alchemists are more than just a unit; we are a community that supports each other and the causes we care about. This weekend reminded us that leadership and service are two sides of the same coin.
